Army rescues 24 trapped tourists in Gilgit Baltistan

Gilgit-Baltistan government and Pakistan Army, in a joint operation yesterday, rescued 24 trapped tourists and other people after heavy snowfall hit the region.
According to a statement issued by Gilgit-Baltistan government spokesman Faizullah Fraq, army helicopter rescued 10 tourists from Deosai National Park. The tourists including a foreign woman cyclist, four locals and five wildlife employees were trapped in Deosai after heavy snowfall hit the area on October 16.
He said the joint team rescued 14 people including 7 children and 6 women from Ghed Das and Behsil mountains of the Diamer district.
Our reporter from Islamabad adds: Pakistan Army in coordination with civil administration was making all endeavours to open Deosai Road.
Currently two bulldozers have been employed for clearance of the road.
Commander FCNA Major General Ehsan Mehmood Khan and Commander 62 Brigade Brigadier Azhar Munir took part in the rescue mission in the area. They provided food supplies and warm clothing to the stranded tourists and locals and assured them their safe return.
During rescue mission, the commanders landed at Bara Pani and Kala Pani and evacuated one of the tourists to Skardu.
The District Administration Mansehra on Thursday started rescue operation to recover 50 shepherds from Jalkhand reportedly stuck in heavy snowfall.
According to the district administration, five families of shepherds from Chillas residing in Jalkhand area comprising women, men and children were stuck in the area along with 100 animals including goats and sheep after heavy snowfall.
Meanwhile, Mansehra police also started rescue operation to recover 50 policemen trapped in Gatidas and other areas of Kaghan and Naran valley.
On the other hand, police and district administration had cleared the Kaghan Road for every sort of vehicular traffic which was blocked owing to the heavy snowfall.
Extreme weather conditions have ended the tourist season in Kaghan and Naran, however the tourists have set Shugran as their destination as tourist resort where roads are clear for every sort of traffic.
District Police Officer (DPO) Mansehra in a press statement said that policemen deployed at various police posts of Kaghan and Naran were safe and they would stay there till further orders for the public safety.
