Drunk man allegedly pees on woman seated in AI's New York-Delhi flight

A drunk passenger on Air India’s New York-Delhi flight of Friday allegedly urinated on a seat where a lady was seated. Junior aviation minister Jayant Sinha has asked AI to probe the matter.

Indrani Ghosh, the traumatised woman passenger’s daughter tweeted from her handle @indranidreams, saying: “Disgraceful (Friday) on your flight AI 102 from JFK to Delhi a drunk passenger removed his pants and peed on the seat my mother was sitting!!! She was traveling alone and is completely traumatized! Reply ASAP.”

Jayant Sinha tweeted to Ghosh and AI, saying: “Please follow up immediately and report back to aviation ministry / DGCAA. Very unfortunate that your mother had to go through this harrowing experience.”

Details of the alleged incident and the action taken by AI were sought from the airline at the time of filing this story which will be updated once they do so.

Ghosh wants AI to take the strictest possible action against the drunk passenger. Sources say the airline is taking this complaint very seriously and has begun a probe. It will take action at the earliest, says a source.

“When I called to make a complaint the usual call center guy following the script asked me to go to the website and write a feedback!! Really FEEDBACK!… Don’t you think by not taking action against such behavior the airline is giving him a free pass!!? By reporting such obscene and offensive behavior the airline can stop such person creating nuisance in future,” Ghosh said in a series of tweets. According to her Twitter account, Ghosh is a Manhattan-based yoga teacher and lawyer.

India now has a no-fly list and disruptive passengers can be barred from flying for varying periods of time depending on the gravity of their onboard unruly behaviour. Till now only Jet Airways has put a passenger flying on a Mumbai-Delhi flight on this list.

Since the alleged unruly behaviour on JFK-Delhi flight happened on an international flight possibly out of Indian airspace, it remains to be seen if AI can do the same.
