Begum Kulsoom Nawaz laid to rest at Jati Umra amid sobs and tears

Former first lady Begum Kulsoom Nawaz was laid to rest at Sharif Medical Complex in Jati Umrah, next to the graves of her father-in-law Mian Sharif and brother-in-law Abbas Sharif, on Friday.

Her funeral prayers were led by renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel at the sprawling healthcare facility.A large number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders and workers, including leaders of other political parties, attended the funeral prayers of the former first lady. She will be laid to rest at the Sharif family graveyard in Jati Umra.

Kulsoom breathed her last on Tuesday after a protracted battle with cancer. Brother-in-law Shehbaz Sharif, daughter Asma Nawaz, sons of Hussain Nawaz and other Sharif family members accompanied the body from London to Lahore on a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight.

Governor Punjab Chaudhry Sarwar also reached Jati Umra to partake in the procession. A high level delegation of the Pakistan Peoples Party comprising former PM Yousuf Raza Gillani, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Khursheed Shah also arrived at the Sharif Raiwind residence for the funeral.

Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar and senior leaders of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will also participate in the funeral procession. Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Chaudhry Shujaat, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq and Liaquat Baloch are also expected to attend the funeral.
