Safdar 'unwell', doctors to assess condition, Nawaz meets legal team in Adiala prison

A little over a week after deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif was incarcerated at Rawalpindi’s central jail, the convicted leader met his legal team on Saturday.
The legal team met with Nawaz, daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar in jail. Maryam’s counsel Amjad Pervaiz said that Nawaz was in good health. The team discussed the accountability court and the Islamabad High Court hearings pending.
Pervaiz further said that Nawaz believes that facilities which should have been provided to him are not. “Safdar is a heart patient and his medical record is available. He doesn’t want to opt for any other medical facility than the one in jail, nor does Maryam.”
Earlier, the legal team were continuously denied access to Nawaz, Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) Safdar in jail, South Punjab news learnt.
Authorities in Adiala Central Jail “unilaterally cancelled” on Wednesday a meeting between members of the Sharif family and their legal counsel that was scheduled.

A member of the legal team said that the team had contacted the Adiala jail authorities on July 17 and requested that they are allowed to consult their clients on July 18 (Wednesday) to determine a legal strategy.
He said that the legal team spent the entire day waiting for a definitive answer which was not forthcoming. “The jail authorities asked us to call at 8am on July 18 (Wednesday) to confirm the time of the meeting.”
However, on the same day, a delegation the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) visited the jail as observers and met Nawaz Sharif for at least 30 minutes. Interestingly, they were accompanied by at least a dozen PML-N leaders and supporters.
(Capt Safdar unwell)The incarcerated son-in-law of convicted prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday reportedly fell ill and paramedical staff was called to assess his condition, South Punjab news reported.
Capt (retd) Safdar fell ill during a meeting with his legal team, said sources. According to prison officials, doctors from the District Headquarters Hospital Rawalpindi were called to check on Safdar. He will not be shifted to a hospital unless doctors advise further medical attention.
Safdar was shifted to Central Jail Rawalpindi on July 9 after he was found guilty by an accountability court in the Avenfield case along with his father-in-law Nawaz Sharif and wife Maryam Nawaz. It was reported Nawaz also met his legal team on Saturday after an earlier meeting on Thursday was cancelled by jail authorities.
South Punjab news reported on Wednesday that Maryam Nawaz was being shifted from Adiala jail to Sihala rest house amid ‘security concerns’. Maryam had complained about prison conditions and was not eating the cooked meals being given to her.
