PML-N to reward loyalists with election tickets

A meeting of PML-N parliamentary board, held with its President Shehbaz Sharif, yesterday passed a resolution seeking holding of the general elections on the already announced date of July 25 and expressing its resolve to resist the move from any side aiming at postponement of the polls.
The board meeting also discussed the Lahore High Court decision on reviving the old nomination forms in the context that the court decision should not cause delay in the elections.
The meeting, attended by PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif, Chairman Raja Zafarul Haq and other members of the board, discussed the matters of the party tickets and decided that interviews of the candidates would be held in every district.
The meeting also held that the party loyalists would be given preference for the award of tickets. The meeting further decided that the party tickets would be awarded after looking into all aspects and obtaining input on the eligibility of the aspirants from the party office bearers. The meeting mainly considered the media and other reports on the expected delay in the elections and resolved not to let that happen in any case.
Speaking at the PML-N parliamentary board meeting, Shehbaz Sharif said his party was fully prepared to take part in the elections which should not be delayed for any reason.
Shehbaz Sharif said the party respected those who remained loyal and they would be given due consideration at the time of awarding tickets. Those who left the party would be held accountable by the people in the polls, Shehbaz Sharif said, adding PML-N was quite intact and ready to enter the election arena. He further said Nawaz Sharif’s slogan “vote to izzat do” is the narrative of the whole party and the nation today and they will prove it true in the election.Former premier Nawaz Sharif said holding of timely elections was a must for the perpetuation of the democratic system. He said delay would cause a loss to the country and serve no good to anyone.
The meeting appointed former federal information minister Marriyum Aurangzeb as spokesperson for the party in place of Senator Dr Asif Kirmani. The board meeting also formed a committee to prepare the party manifesto and strategy for the July 25 polls.
The meeting expressed resolve to ensure holding of the elections on time. It also asserted the PML-N would enter the election arena on the basis of performance and achievements made in the areas of power generation, counter-terrorism, steps taken to better the economy, revolutionary measures in agriculture sector, empowerment schemes for women/youth and others.
The PML-N sources say the meeting reviewed the party government performance over the last five years and expressed satisfaction and pinpointed the areas where further development would be made after winning the polls.
Talking to media men after the meeting, Marriyum Aurangzeb said the nation was ready to vote in the next election and she was optimistic that there would be no delay in the elections.
Marriyum said on-time elections were the prime responsibility of the caretaker set-up and she hopes it would discharge its duties to this direction. She also expressed concern over the U-turns taken by the PTI on the names of caretaker CMs in Punjab and KP, adding Imran Khan’s party had played a joke to the nation and had exposed its own political immaturity. It appears neither Imran Khan nor any of his cronies ever read the constitution to know what the national legal document demanded about caretakers. She said Nawaz Sharif had served the country and the nation in a big way as the prime minister.
