Supreme Court of Pakistan( SC) has fined Punjab Assistant Advocate General Asma Hamid Rs1,000 and issued notice to Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Chairman Siddiqul Farooq in Katas Raj Temple Suo Motu case.
According to media reports, a three-member bench also expressed their concerns on the absence of Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Saeed and chairman of the Planning and Development Commission in today’s hearing of the case.
Chief Justice Saqib Nisar has also asked for details of the properties under the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) and the funds generated from them.
SC warned if asked details are not provided on the next hearing,  ETPB Chairman Siddiqul Farooq should leave his post.
Earlier, in this case, the Supreme Court has ordered the cement factories to fill up the temple pond.
The Supreme Court took Suo Moto notice after the media reports suggested that temple’s pond is drying up due to the illegal establishment of cement factories nearby.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar observed that four cement factories are sucking up the water through drill bores reducing the water level in the pond.
Furthermore, the court ordered Punjab government to present details of conditions under which the cement factories were allowed to establish their plants in the area where there is already the shortage of water and also causing pollution.
