Rape attempt on a Polio worker in Muzaffargarh

MULTAN, Jan 20th: A Lady Health Worker (LHW) Sumayya Kiran wife of Rab Nawaz who is serving as polio worker has lodged a complaint with the Shehr Sultan Police that Four Persons Haq-nawaz,Fida Hussain sons of Ghulam Qadar, Muhammad Irshad son of Ghulam Nabi and a General Councillor Ghulam Abbas have attempted to sexually assault her when she was on duty.District Police Officer Muzaffargarh Muhammad Awais Malik said that this incident occurred on friday but she lodged a complaint on Saturday morning and a case No.46/18 was instituted against the alleged culprits. She alleged that four person dragged her to a mud-house, torn her clothes and made movie and made an attempt to outrage her modesty but her hue and cry foiled their attempt and they ran-away leaving her naked. The incident,according to police,occurred at village Kapahi Khar-wala (Police station Shehr Sultan)hardly 20 km away from Mirwala (Jatoi)village of Mukhtar Mai, some 110 km south-west of Multan.However no arrest was made.Awais Malik DPO said ," We are investigating the case because people of the area denied occurrence of such incident on Friday.He further said that all the nominated accused have granted -pre-arrest bails from the session court. men attempted to rape an anti-polio campaign worker in Punjab's Muzaffargarh district, police said on Saturday.
Wasim Gopang, police spokesman in Muzaffargarh, said the woman alleged that four men dragged her into a room, stripped her lower dress off, took pictures of her and attempted to rape her but her screaming attracted others and the suspects got away.
The incident happened on Friday when the woman was working in a home during the anti-polio drive.
Gopang said the men were later identified but were not detained. A local court granted them interim bail but investigators were trying to have their bails cancelled.
Since the start of 2018, there has been a marked upsurge in the reporting of sexual abuse cases across Pakistan. The brutal rape and murder of Zainab Ansari in Kasur earlier this month in particular shocked the entire country, with #JusticeforZainab becoming the rallying cry in a nationwide drive to end violence against children.
