Five killed in US drone strike targeting compound in Kurram Agency

At least  five people were killed in a drone strike on a compound along the zero-line of Kurram Agency’s bordering area with Afghanistan.

“Three remotely piloted aircraft had been seen buzzing over the area hours before one of them fired missiles at the compound in the Maqbal area of Kurram Agency,” one official told The Express Tribune on the condition of anonymity.
He added that the compound was reduced to rubbles in the attack, killing all four people inside. Identities of the slain people could not be ascertained immediately.Local political administration confirmed the drone strike but said it was trying to find out whether the area was in Pakistan’s territory.
The drone strike came days after Pakistan Army rescued a Canadian-American couple and their three children in an intelligence-based operation in the same Kurram Agency.
On Sunday, four Pakistani troops searching for the kidnappers, who had fled during the operation, were martyred in a roadside bomb attack in the region.
In June, a senior commander of a militant group allied with the Afghan Taliban was killed in a US drone strike in an area on the confluence of borders between Hangu district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Orakzai and North Waziristan tribal regions.
Also in March, a suspected US drone strike killed two Afghan Taliban militants in a village near the Afghan border.
