25 killed as Deputy Chairman Senate Haideri's convoy hit by explosion in Mastung

At least 25  people were killed and over 30 others including Senate's Deputy Chairman Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri were injured in a suicide blast in Mustung, some 90 kilometer from the provincial capital on Friday.
The bombing took place near a local seminary shortly after Friday prayers.
Deputy Chairman Senate Abdul Ghafoor Haideri's convoy was the worst hit in the attack. The explosion occurred right as Haideri's convoy was exiting the seminary.
It was unclear whether the explosion was the result of an improvised explosive device (IED) or a suicide attack. Police say the attack is likely to have been a suicide blast.
Haideri, while speaking briefly to media, said he had suffered minor injuries but was otherwise fine. He has been shifted to Quetta for treatment. His condition, according to a representative of the Balochistan government, Anwar ul Haq Kakar, is "safe and sound".
“I am alive, Allah has saved my life, it was a sudden blast, broken pieces of the windscreen hit me, I am injured but safe. The driver and other people sitting next to me were badly injured,” Haideri said while speaking to a private TV channel, SAMAA. Haideri's driver, along with two other associates later succumbed to their injuries.
Police feared many injuries but declined to give a number saying rescue operations are still underway.
Kakar, while speaking to DawnNews said that some of the injured were air-lifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Quetta.
The majority of those injured and killed were party workers of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), rescue sources said.
Levies, police and Frontier Corps (FC) personnel are present at the site of the attack, which has been cordoned off.
The wounded are being taken to Civil Hospital Mastung, while those in critical condition are being transported to Quetta for treatment.
An emergency has been declared at Civil Hospital Mastung and more doctors have been called in, hospital sources said.
This is not the first time a JUI-F lawmaker has been targeted in a blast.
In 2014, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman was injured in a suicide blast outside a JUI-F rally in Quetta targeting his vehicle.
Before this Rehman survived two previous attempts on his life in March 2011 when he was targeted by two back-to-back suicide attacks.
