Awareness and Encouragement of Use of Toilets in villages-

Community development Unit of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED)is launching an awareness campaign in 100 villages of seven union councils of rural areas on using toilets  with the collaboration of local volunteers who are playing key role in extending this project. A three day training workshop was organised at a hotel of Muzaffargarh which was attended by the 26 volunteers of Ibrahim wali  and Omarpur Janobi. Executive Engineer PHED Victor Joseph and Farhat Jehangir said that It is important to remember that the right to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene is the key to the realization of the right to health and well being and To use Toilet. Loss of Productivity due to illness caused by lack of sanitation and poor hygiene practices s estimated to cost many countries up to 5% of GDP. Unhygienic defecation practice could eventually lead to communicable diseases like Diarrhea, Hepatitis ,Polio and other illness, and could even result in death.They said that the objective of the campaign was to create awareness on construction and use of toilets in villages; as well as on general sanitation and hygiene. Rallies were organized in the villages with slogans on the importance of toilets and hygiene, how to use toilets, consequence of unhygienic defecation, and sanitation in general.Certificates were given to volunteers who have completed their training successfully. Mr.victor Joseph appreciated the participation of the villagers particularly women in the campaign.
