Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) recommended imposing fine of Rs. 500,000/- on M/s Galaxy Broadcast (Pvt.) Ltd. (Channel-92), for irresponsible and unverified reporting.
According to press release, PEMRA Council of Complaints, Karachi in its 31st meeting held under the Chair of Prof. Inam Bari at PEMRA Regional Office, Karachi recommended imposing fine of Rs. 500,000/- on M/s Galaxy Broadcast (Pvt.) Ltd. (Channel-92) for irresponsible and unverified reporting.
The recommendations were made after hearing the complaint of Mr. Asim Hussain filed through his legal counsel Mr. Anwar Mansoor Khan, Senior Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The Council also recommended revocation of Cable TV Licences of M/s Barlas Cable TV Network and M/s N.N Cable TV Network, Karachi for being non operational and not revalidating their licenses after expiry.
Hearing complaint against DAWN News program News Eye hosted by Ms. Mehar Bukhari dated 16th March, 2016, the Council recommended issuing Advice to M/s Aurora Broadcasting (Pvt.) Ltd. (Dawn News) for violating Code of Conduct and failing to install effective time delay mechanism in its live programs.
Other Council members including Mrs. Hoori Noorani, Mr. Farhad Zaidi, Mrs. Anjum Ara Sabahuddin and Mr. Ashfaq Ahmed Jumani (Secretary to the Council / Regional General Manager, Sindh) were also present in the meeting.
